Subsidized Daycare in Brossard: How to Register

How to register your child for subsidized daycare in Brossard through Quebec's new childcare registration portal, what a reduced-contribution spot costs in 2026 and how CPEs differ from private daycares.

Updated October 31, 2026 · 5 min read

Finding a subsidized daycare spot is one of the first steps for many families arriving in Brossard. This guide explains, step by step, how registration works in Quebec since La Place 0-5 was phased out, what a reduced-contribution spot costs in 2026, how to tell a CPE from a private daycare and how to check that a childcare service is recognized. Last checked: October 2026.

At a glance

  • La Place 0-5 has been replaced by the Portail d’inscription aux services de garde (childcare registration portal), fully rolled out in December 2025. It is now the single point of entry.
  • In 2026, the daily rate for a subsidized spot is $9.65, according to Québec.ca; it is indexed every January 1.
  • It is no longer possible to register a child before birth.
  • You can put your child on as many waiting lists as you like, including for services in Brossard and neighbouring cities.
  • CPEs, subsidized daycares and recognized home childcare providers offer the reduced contribution; non-subsidized daycares set their own rates.
  • Each listing on the portal shows rates, services offered and available inspection reports.

Types of childcare services in Brossard

In Brossard, as elsewhere in Quebec, you’ll find the same categories of educational childcare services. Here’s what sets them apart, according to the Types of childcare services in Quebec page:

TypeWhereRate for parentsGood to know
Centre de la petite enfance (CPE, early childhood centre)FacilityReduced contributionRun by a board of directors two-thirds made up of parents; maximum 100 children per facility
Subsidized private daycareFacilityReduced contributionGenerally for-profit; maximum 100 children
Non-subsidized private daycareFacilitySet by the daycareSame regulatory framework; financial support may be available depending on your situation
Recognized home childcarePrivate residenceMostly reduced contributionRecognized by a coordinating office; maximum 6 children, or 9 with an assistant

All of these services must hold a permit from the ministère de la Famille (Quebec’s Ministry of Families) or, for home childcare, recognition from a coordinating office, except for limited exceptions provided by law.

How much does a subsidized spot cost in 2026?

According to Québec.ca, the daily rate for subsidized childcare is set at $9.65 for 2026. This amount is indexed annually on January 1. Details are on the Subsidized childcare rate page.

If your child attends a non-subsidized daycare, you pay the rate set by the daycare, but you may be entitled to financial support, including the tax credit for childcare expenses paid by Revenu Québec. The options are summarized on the Financial support for childcare costs page. This is general information, not financial advice: your tax situation may change the outcome.

Registering: the childcare registration portal

Since its full rollout, announced by the Government of Quebec on December 1, 2025, the Portail d’inscription aux services de garde has replaced La Place 0-5. It is used by both parents and childcare services. Here are the steps described on the Find a childcare service and register my child page:

  1. Create an account with the Service d’authentification gouvernementale (government authentication service). Your identity is verified, notably using your health insurance card.
  2. Create your family file in the portal. It’s recommended that the parent who receives the Family Allowance create it; your Retraite Québec client number can simplify this step.
  3. Create a file for each child already born and enter your childcare needs (desired start date, days, schedule).
  4. Confirm the child’s identity within 90 days of creating their file, or your requests may be suspended.
  5. Search for services with the interactive map: centre it on Brossard or on your route to work.
  6. Submit an admission request to the waiting list of each service you choose, answering all the questions.
  7. Follow your notifications and keep your file up to date.

What has changed compared to La Place 0-5

  • No registration during pregnancy: registration is only possible after birth (or, for adoption, after the child arrives in the family).
  • The desired start date matters: for subsidized spots, it’s the date you need the spot, not the registration date, that is taken into account.
  • A rank indicator gives a rough idea of your child’s position on the list of each CPE or subsidized daycare.
  • A single admission policy replaces each service’s own policy; the applicable priorities are displayed in the portal.
  • Offers are automatic: when a spot opens up, the portal offers it to the next eligible child and notifies the parent by email.

How a spot offer works is explained on the Childcare admission process page.

Practical tips for Brossard families

  • Widen your search. There’s no limit on the number of lists. Consider services near your work or along your commute, for example near a REM station if you work in Montreal.
  • Enter a realistic start date, since that’s what counts for subsidized spots.
  • Consider recognized home childcare, often at the reduced contribution and sometimes closer to home.
  • Read the inspection reports shown on each service’s listing before accepting a spot.
  • Have a plan B (non-subsidized daycare, family help, extended parental leave) if your return-to-work date is approaching.

Checking that a service is recognized

A service listed in the portal is a recognized service in Quebec. You can also look for the recognized childcare services logo and, if in doubt, contact the ministère de la Famille’s customer relations centre. If you believe someone is caring for children without a permit or recognition when they should have one, you can file a complaint with the ministry.
